DERRY — The area’s eateries, breweries and wineries are being featured through February as the fourth annual Restaurant Month continues.
The month-long celebration is a way to celebrate what restaurants and other businesses offer in the way of fine food and drink.
This year, Restaurant Month is a bit different than in years past, according to Derry’s Economic Development Director Beverly Donovan, who said participating and enjoying all the variety of eateries is an easy way to show support.
Hosted by Derry Economic Development and the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber, the effort also gives restaurants a chance to offer what they do best — from sit-in service, delivery, or takeout — and it’s a way to keep businesses alive and successful.
“We are doing everything,” Donovan said, noting that unlike year’s past, the event covers “any restaurant, brewery, winery, food trucks, and prepared food vendors at farmer’s markets.”
People can visit restaurants in Derry and Londonderry, and in all Chamber towns to take part in Restaurant Month.
Businesses will also post specials and other favorite foods via social media, Donovan said, so people can find the best spots to visit for a meal, or drink.
And restaurants don’t have to be official Chamber members for patrons to enjoy.
When people get out to restaurants and other spots all this month, receipts collected can be copied and emailed by March 1 to economicdevelopment@derrynh.org to be entered into raffles for gift cards from food and drink establishments.
In her economic development role in Derry, Donovan said Restaurant Month gives her the added opportunity to get out and meet business people to catch up on their businesses.
Restaurant Month is also a winter incentive for those who participate.
“It encourages people to stay local and try new places” Donovan said. “Especially this time of year, coming off the holidays when people may have tried to save some money. Sometimes they don’t think about going out. This reminds people there are great places.”
