What motivates you to give back to your community?
Being involved in the community and giving back in whatever ways you can was something instilled in my brother and me at a very young age. Volunteering and community engagement allows me to make a positive impact and be part of something bigger. I have seen firsthand the difference volunteers make to an organization and their missions. I am proud I get to be a part of that difference.
What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?
I would remind myself that today, and every day, is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. Make it worth the price you are paying.
What would make New Hampshire more attractive to young professionals?
I think over recent years New Hampshire has grown its avenues to support young professionals through organizations like the Young Professionals Networks within local Chambers of Commerce and Stay, Work, Play New Hampshire. Along with those resources, to truly attract and retain young professionals, public transportation needs to be improved to ensure New Hampshire has an infrastructure that supports growth. Affordable housing and accessible childcare are other key areas of focus.
Do you see yourself living and working in New Hampshire at age 55-plus?
I do. I love the sense of community throughout the state. There are so many ways to be involved at whatever level of interest and commitment someone has. There are endless ways to experience and enjoy the state as well. I love that we have the ability to go from a snow-topped mountain adventure to swimming in the ocean in the same day. I am also fortunate to have an amazing group of family and friends nearby who continue to make New Hampshire home for me.
Volunteer activities: Chair, Board of Trustees, The Capital Region Food Program; Technology Coordinator, HR Association of Greater Concord (HRAGC); board member, Jobs for America’s Graduates – New Hampshire (JAG-NH); volunteer judge, N.H. DECA Student Competition.
Last major achievement: Professionally, my last major achievement was obtaining my Senior Certified Professional credential from the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM). A personal achievement was the birth of my son this past summer. In the community, it was supporting the transition of the Capital Region Food Program’s Holiday Project to a new, flexible, customizable, and sustainable format with an even greater impact marking the organization’s 50th year of providing holiday meals to those facing food insecurities.
