This is a partial list of Veterans Day services and observances taking place in New Hampshire. All are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 11.
MANCHESTER: The annual Veterans Day Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. starting at Elm and Webster streets. A moment of silence and taps will take place at City Hall at 11 a.m. A short ceremony will follow at Veterans Park. Also, there will be a free luncheon from 1 to 3 p.m. following the parade at Henry J. Sweeney Post, 251 Maple St. All members and non-members are welcome.
NASHUA: Beginning at 8 a.m., a contingent of veterans will hold brief ceremonies at various monuments including the World War II memorial at Railroad Square; the Soldiers and Sailors monument atop Library Hill at the intersection of Amherst, Nashville and Concord streets; the Vietnam Veterans monument on Ledge Street at the former Textile Field; the Main Street Bridge; and the monuments at City Hall Plaza. The traditional Veterans Day parade will step off from Holman Stadium at 11:11 a.m. The parade will proceed east on Amherst Street, south on Main Street, pass the reviewing stand in front of City Hall, continue south on Main Street to Lake Street, and disband at Elm Street Middle School.
DERRY: A blessing of the veterans will take place at St. Luke’s Church at 10 a.m. Veterans Day ceremonies follow at MacGregor Park at 10:30 a.m. There will be an open house at VFW 1617 Post Home from 1130 a.m. to 1 p.m.
ATKINSON: A veterans breakfast and social hour will be held at the Atkinson Fire Station at 1 Academy Ave. followed by a ceremony. Breakfast is at 9 a.m. and the ceremony will immediately follow from 10 to 11 a.m.
RINDGE: A Veterans Day service will be held at the Cathedral of the Pines at 10:45 a.m.
MEREDITH: Dedication of the new Veterans Memorial at 10 a.m. at the library. Parade up Main Street follows at 10.
JAFFREY: A parade of veterans will assemble at Jaffrey’s Blake Street parking lot; step off is at 10:40 a.m. and the parade will proceed to the Town Common. Address delivered by retired U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. Denny Hylton and the national anthem will be played.
CLAREMONT: Color Guard will be presenting the colors at the Claremont Senior Center for the Special Olympics Opening Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. At 11 a.m., the full Honor Guard will assemble in Broad Street Park for a Veterans Day ceremony. Luncheon to follow.
DOVER: A Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. at Dover Veterans Park. The ceremony will include an opening prayer, posting of colors, laying the wreath, the Dover High School Band and Dover High School’s Navy Junior ROTC. There will also be remarks by city officials, including Mayor Robert Carrier, and a guest speaker.
RAYMOND: Veterans will be honored at the town common at noon with lunch at the VFW to follow.
LEBANON: Free veterans breakfast will be held at American Legion Post 22 at 7 a.m. A parade around Colburn Park will be at 11 a.m. with a ceremony to follow in the park.
MILFORD: Veterans Day parade starts at 10:45 a.m. from the American Legion (the Oval will be closed from 10:30 a.m. to noon)
PETERBOROUGH: At 10:30 a.m., a memorial plaque will be added to the town’s Memorial Wall to pay tribute to those who fought and died in the French and Indian Wars and the Revolutionary War. Many descendants of these veterans have still made Peterborough their home. Join in paying tribute to those early settlers.
PORTSMOUTH: Veterans Day will be commemorated in Portsmouth with a wreath-laying at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument in Goodwin Park at 11 a.m. A post-event gathering will take place at the American Legion Post for those unable to attend the outdoor ceremony. In case of rain, the event will move indoors to the Legion.
