Army JROTC Cadet Major Jaden Szurley of Jefferson and White Mountains Regional High School, receives his JROTC Achievement Award from Granite State Flight #53 member Col.William Moran, USAF (Ret) of Gilford.
Granite State Flight #53 and the National Order of Daedalians presented three Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) Cadets from New Hampshire with Achievement Awards for their outstanding patriotism, citizenship, and academic excellence this past summer.
Navy JROTC Petty Officer 3rd Class (PO/3) Jaslyn Coldwell of Manchester, a graduate of Manchester High School West, received her award from Flight Member/Col. Andrew “Drew” Breuder, MD, USAF (Ret) of Bedford. PO/3 Coldwell enlisted in the New Hampshire Army National Guard upon her high school graduation. Col. Breuder is a former flight surgeon.
Air Force JROTC Cadet Owen McCarthy of Windham, Windham High School, and the Salem High School Air Force JROTC, unit received his award from Flight Captain/Col. Kevin Grady, USAF (Ret) of Hooksett. Cadet McCarthy is being considered for a Command Staff position with his JROTC unit. Col. Grady is a former F-15 fighter pilot.
Army JROTC Cadet Major Jaden Szurley of Jefferson and White Mountains Regional High School in Whitefield, received his award from Flight Member Col. William Moran, USAF (Ret) of Gilford. Cadet Szurley recently was promoted to his current rank. Col. Moran is a former B-1 and FB-111 bomber pilot.
The qualifications for the Daedalian JROTC medal are demonstrated patriotism, love of country and service to the nation, indicating the potential and desire to pursue a military career, ranking in the upper 10% of his or her JROTC class, and ranking in the upper 20% of his or her high school class.
Members of Granite State Flight #53 presented the awards to the outstanding cadets at their JROTC units.
The flight consists of about 70 former military aviators from all the armed services who live in New Hampshire and Maine and have flown or served aboard almost every type of American military aircraft.
The Order of Daedalians is a group of current and former military aviators that is dedicated to inspiring, teaching, and mentoring the next generation of military and civilian aircrew.
