NASHUA — Realizing how hectic it can be for the city’s newest residents to settle into their new digs and find answers to the many questions that inevitably arise during such a transition, representatives of various city agencies, services and organizations are putting together a welcoming reception to be held next month.
The event, called “Welcome to Nashua,” is the first of what organizers hope will become an annual event “to help new residents feel connected and informed,” according to Jennifer McCormack, director of the Nashua Public Library, which is hosting the event.
“Welcome to Nashua” is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 8. Mayor Jim Donchess will begin the event with a brief address at 5:30 p.m.
While the event, which is free, is geared toward new residents, anyone who feels they would benefit from learning more about Nashua is welcome to attend.
Folks curious about everything from the best pizza places to the Department of Public Works’ schedules for trash pickup, recycling, spring and fall yard waste collections, questions about the city’s website, how to find municipal meeting agendas and minutes, how to receive information about emergency preparedness, information about the school system and current construction updates will be answered.
City leaders will update newcomers and any residents present on such projects as the Riverfront Development Plan, currently underway in and around the Nashua Millyard, and the renovation of Library Plaza, which is soon to get started.
“The public library is the perfect place to connect with your new community,” McCormack said. “We invite everyone new to Nashua to come and find out how you can be part of what’s happening in the city while meeting some new friends.”
