The Manchester Monarchs, playing a home game at The Rinks at Exeter, received a goal from Pierre-Luc Mercier 2:16 into overtime to beat the Newfoundland Growlers 2-1 on Friday night in Game 5 of the ECHL North Division finals.
The win enabled the Monarchs to pull within 3-2 in the series and force another game on Monday night in Newfoundland. A Game 7, if necessary, is set for Tuesday night, also in Newfoundland.
Danill Miromanov and Kevin Dufour received assists on the game-winning goal.
David Kolomatis' second-period goal put the Monarchs up, 1-0, but former Dartmouth star Zach O'Brien answered for the visitors about three minutes later.
Both goalies, the Monarchs' Charles Williams and the Growlers' Michael Garteig, made 30 saves.
The Rinks hosted Game 5 because of a scheduling conflict at the Monarchs' home, the SNHU Arena in Manchester. The game marked the first time the Monarchs have played either a playoff or regular-season home game contest from the arena.
