The University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team completed a season sweep of Maine with a 60-57 win at Lundholm Gymnasium Saturday night.
Jaxson Baker paced with Wildcats (14-9 overall, 6-4 America East) with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Baker was 4-for-8 on 3-pointers, while UNH was just 7-for-24 overall.
The Wildcats are currently fourth in America East, one game behind UMass Lowell.
Trey Woodyard and Clarence Daniels added 13 points apiece for UNH, while Ahmad Robinson scored 10 points.
Maine (11-13, 3-6) is tied for fifth in America East with Albany.
The Wildcats return to action on Thursday when they travel to face league-leading Vermont (19-6, 9-1).
Lost weekend for men’s hockey
The UNH men’s hockey team could manage just two goals in a pair of weekend contests, falling 6-1 at Boston College Friday night before a 3-1 setback at Merrimack Saturday night.
Against top-ranked BC, UNH fell behind quickly after one period and trailed 4-1 in the third before Harrison Blaisdell scored the Wildcats’ lone goal of the game.
UNH (14-11-1, 7-8-1 Hockey East) outshot BC 31-27, but was shut down by goaltender Jacob Fowler (30 saves).
UNH goaltender Jakob Hellsten made 21 stops.
UNH fell behind 2-0 at Merrimack Saturday before Cy LeClerc made it 2-1 late in the first period, but the Wildcats wouldn’t score again in their 3-1 loss. The game remained at 2-1 until Merrimack tallied an empty-net goal with just over 30 seconds remaining.
Hellsten made 17 saves on 19 shots for UNH.
UNH, currently in seventh place in Hockey East, returned home for a weekend series series against Maine. Tickets are sold out for both Friday night’s and Saturday night’s games at the Whittemore Center.
