A hiker was injured Saturday afternoon descending Welch Mountain in Waterville Valley, according to New Hampshire Fish and Game.
The hiker, summered a serious lower leg injury preventing her from being able to continue, according to officials.
Rescuers from the Waterville Valley Department of Public Safety, Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue, Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team and Conservation Officers with the New Hampshire Fish & Game Department responded to the trail to provide help, they said.
Rescuers reached Elisabeth Campbell, 26, of Somerville, Massachusetts, about 2:45 p.m. about 1.3 miles from the railhead. Using a litter and rope to negotiate steep and icy trail, the party reached the trailhead at 4:35 p.m., according to Fish and Game.
Campbell was taken to Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth by a hiking companion for care.
According to Fish and Game, Campbell and her companion were well-prepared for a winter hike and were wearing micro-spike traction devices.
